As the the quality of the job is as only as good as the preparation work, it is essential to have the concrete slab in best possible condition prior to any installation process.
The removal of tiles may be necessary as it is difficult to determine how secure they are fixed to the concrete.
If the concrete slab has been painted this must also be removed prior to installation.
If the slab is uneven or badly pitted a concrete screed may need to be applied to improve the situation.
If the concrete slab is relatively new it is important to apply a moisture barrier such as epicrete to prevent the moisture in the slab getting through to the timber.
A moisture barrier is also effective in areas where rising damp may be an issue.
